Some central Indiana utilities suspending disconnections due to coronavirus

INDIANAPOLIS — Some central Indiana utility agencies will not be disconnecting services over the next month for late-paying customers, as health officials ask the public to stay indoors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The following utilities have made changes to their disconnection policies:

Citizens Energy
Announced a moratorium on shutting off water service to customers.
Not disconnecting utility services for nonpayment until April 15.
Also granting any requests for water turn-on until April 15.

Indiana American Water
Moratorium on shutting off water service to customers.

Duke Energy
Suspending electricity nonpayment disconnection for residential and business customers.

Indianapolis Power & Light
Will not disconnect electricity until April 15.

City of Frankfort Municipal Utilities
Enacted a suspension of service disconnects due to non-payment.
Customers unable to make payments should call the billing office at 765-659-3361.
