INDIANAPOLIS — A local catering company is working to help as families across Central Indiana deal with a number of challenges caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Some parents are not able to work after schools shut down. Others are impacted by event cancellations they counted on to make money. It all directly impacts people's ability to put food on the table.
That's where Nameless Catering's Jeremy Brown comes in. On a typical weekend morning, his business is normally busy preparing food for local events, but instead of serving food Saturday, Nameless Catering was answering the call to serve the community.
"We already have a ton of product on hand and so we've had a lot of cancellations come in right because you can't do big events," Brown said. "People are hungry and people are getting really in a bad spot right now."
Brown said they are preparing individually packaged meals that people can take home and reheat.
"So far, we have heard from people who all their kids are out of school now and they are out of work now because they have to stay home and take care of their kids," Brown said. "We have a mother with five children. She emailed me this morning."
Brittany Delph, who works with Student Impact of Westfield, said there are students they typically help provide food for every week, but they are seeing that need increase as the coronavirus impacts everyday life.
"Not having that breakfast and lunch is creating a need for the students," Delph said. "It's a need that the families are going to be burdened with. Many of them might be out of work. They might not be able to go because they have to do childcare. This is where we as a community need to step up and help them."
Delph said Nameless Catering's donation goes beyond helping the students. It helps the parents who are trying to find a way to make ends meet.
"It is beyond words. It is such a huge help. This meal, having a hot meal, having good nutrition to go to our students. They are not having to eat whatever they are able to put together," Delph said. "There are no words to express the gratitude, it's so beyond helpful. The students feel it. The community feels that it's been awesome to see the community come together."
