INDIANAPOLIS — As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, students at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis have been told to not return to campus housing if they left the city or campus for spring break.
In a series of tweets sent Monday, the university said students who are on campus and can go home should make arrangements to leave residential housing by Friday. IUPUI students who cannot go home should file a petition to stay on campus.
IUPUI's spring break began Monday.
On March 10, Indiana University suspended in-person classes at all its campus through at least April 6 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Students who need essential items, such as medical equipment, academic books and computers, should send an email to reslife@iupui.edu, the university said.

Housing and Residence Life will email students after Friday to provide information on how to make an appointment to retrieve personal possessions.
"You do not need to rush to get nonessential items," a tweet said. "They may remain in your residence hall until you pick them up."
The university said it is aware students and families already paid for room and board they will not be able to use, and it is working through the process with all IU campuses and more information will be available at a later time.
"Decisions regarding reimbursement are not tied to the timing of your move out from the residence halls," a tweet read." "In other words, if you leave your personal items on campus for the next few months, that will not impact your reimbursement."
