Bring us some figgy pudding ice cream.
It may not fit neatly into the lyrics of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” but it’s one of the holiday-inspired ice cream flavors being scooped around the country this winter. Independent ice cream companies and nationwide chains are getting into the Christmas spirit with their seasonal offerings.
Portland-based Salt & Straw — who previously offered Thanksgiving flavors including Honey Bourbon Corn Pudding and Spiced Chevre Pumpkin Pie — are now scooping Fruit Cake, Mincemeat Pie, Peppermint Cocoa and Bourbon Pecan Pie flavors.
Salt & Straw has also made a Spiked Eggnog flavor that is “brimming with tequila, sherry and a hefty serving of nutmeg,” according to its website.
Artisan outfit Lake Effect Ice Cream, based in New York, posted four seasonal flavors to its Facebook page in November. The company is offering a Figgy Pudding flavor as well as Egg Nog, S’mores & Hot Chocolate, and Candy Cane Parfait.
The figgy pudding offering is described by the company as “absolutely amazing” thanks to “brown sugar and butter sauce that we blend together with freshly pureed black mission figs.”
Bigger ice cream companies offering holiday flavors include Baskin Robbins, whose York Peppermint Pattie and Winter White Chocolate are now being scooped at thousands of shops nationwide.
Cold Stone Creamery’s menu includes several holiday-inspired flavors including Dark Chocolate Peppermint and Candy Cane Crunch. Through the end of this month, Häagen-Dazs is selling a peppermint bark flavor.
