Food on the Flye: Pile on the toppings at Yogülatte in Speedway

Posted

If you give me a lot of choices, I’ll have one of each. So that’s why my cup of frozen yogurt looked as colorful as a crayon box.

I stopped in the Yogülatte on Main Street in Speedway, a self-serve frozen yogurt and coffee shop, on a night when I was feeling hungry and indecisive.

In one rather huge cup, I had a twist of several yummy yogurt flavors: red velvet cake, cake batter, pumpkin, peanut butter, and mango sorbet. Even better than the vast variety, all those flavors where either low fat or fat-free.

Then I piled on some not-so-healthy toppings: Butterfinger, Heath, Oreos, and Reeses pieces. But yes, there are healthier choices, such as pineapple, strawberries and blackberries.

The sauces are next in line. I added on a dab of caramel, marshmallow, peanut butter, and butterscotch.

I filled my cup to the brim - It was a cold, creamy, ooey-gooey concoction, and so delicious. However, with so much going on in that cup, it was hard for my taste buds to separate all the flavors. Next time, I’ll just stick with just a couple.

The flavors on the Yogülattechalkboard menu change weekly, but the staples are usually vanilla, chocolate, cake batter, original tart, and peanut butter. Other flavors recently in rotation include: pistachio, banana, green apple Sorbet, pecan praline, and key lime pie sorbet.

Locally-owned, Yogülatte opened in 2010. There are two locations, both in Indy. It’s been at the Speedway location for five years, there’s also a shop on Mass Ave in Indy.

Yogülatte is part of Savor Speedway, a 12-day food event from Oct. 25 to Nov. 5 showcasing deals in Speedway. Learn more here.
