INDIANAPOLIS – A plane ride to some of the world’s most culturally diverse countries can cost a pretty penny, but a 20-minute car drive – from practically anywhere in Indy - could allow you to step into a new world.
In the International Marketplace on the city’s northwest side, those that live, work and play in the neighborhood are able to absorb new traditions, foods and services.
More than 80 restaurants and 700 ethnic businesses are up for grabs when you explore the International Marketplace’s 12-block corridor – the challenge is, which to visit first.
Most businesses are located on Lafayette Road between 34th and 46th Streets. They are also found along 38th Street between High School Road and Commercial Drive.
At Al-Rayan Restaurant and Bakery, you’ll uncover cuisine from the heart of the Arabian Peninsula presented in a modern fashion.
Just a few doors down are all the ingredients needed to whip up your own globally-inspired dish at International Food Market.
Mary Clark, executive director of the International Marketplace, said what she loves most about the neighborhood is the diversity.
“We’re not just the International Marketplace, we’re a family. We’re learning to be a community, learning to be a village and that this is a great place to be,” she said.
