Franciscan Health issues temporary visitor restrictions due to increase in measles cases

INDIANAPOLIS — Franciscan Health is implementing temporary visitor restrictions because of an increase in measles cases in the state of Indiana.

The policy, which went into effect on May 6, affects multiple units of the hospitals in Indianapolis and Mooresville.

Visitors who have not been vaccinated against measles, are not immune to measles, or unsure of their status, are asked not to visit the following areas and units.

Indianapolis Campus

  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Pediatrics
  • Labor and Delivery
  • Labor and Delivery
  • Postpartum
  • Newborn Nursery
  • Oncology
  • Bone Marrow Transplant

Mooresville Campus

  • Labor and Delivery
  • Postpartum
  • Special Care Nursery

Measles is preventable with a vaccination. The hospital says anyone who is unsure about their vaccination history should check with their healthcare provider or access immunization recordsthrough the Children and Hoosier Immunization Registry Program.

The Centers for Diseases Control recorded 764 cases of measles in 23 different states between January 1, 2019, and May 3, 2019.
