Medical professionals: Get your flu shot now

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- In central Indiana, medical professionals continue to encourage people who have not received their flu vaccination to get one -- sooner rather than later.

The Lexington, Kentucky Health Department recently reported its first flu death of the season.

At one Indianapolis CVS Minute Clinic, nurses there say they have yet to diagnose anybody with the flu, but say it won't be long.

"It's very important because there is often complications that are associated with the flu such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and those types of things, even death, so it's really worth it to come in and get your flu vaccine," said Katherine Davis, a CVS Minute Clinic Family Nurse Practitioner, said. "And then also prevention -- you want to make sure you're doing good hand hygiene, washing your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds, and then using hand sanitizer, make sure it's alcohol based."

While most insurance companies cover the cost of the flu vaccine, many health departments are hosting clinics.
