Mozel Sanders' last Thanksgiving dinner

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Thanksgiving is a big day for the Mozel Sanders Foundation, where volunteers prepare meals for thousands of people across Indianapolis.

But it was believed that 1987 would be the last year for the dinner, however it was able to continue thanks to a donation from the Lilly endowment and the Indianapolis Foundation. It would be the last dinner served by Reverend Mozel Sanders, who died a few months before the dinner in 1988.

The 1987 dinner was the 13th year the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist held the dinner. Under the direction of Sanders, dozens of volunteers helped prepare, cook and serve a Thanksgiving meal for thousands of Hoosiers.
