Throwback: Eating out for Thanksgiving in 1988

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS — Many Americans will sit down and enjoy a traditional turkey dinner this Thanksgiving, but in 1988, some opted to buck tradition.

Former Channel 6 meteorologist David James caught up with Hoosiers who opted to gobble down at a restaurant instead of slaving away at home.

“It’s a new experience. It’s the first Thanksgiving I haven't cooked a meal at home. I miss making the turkey, but I love the fellowship and leisureliness of it,” said one patron.

Although many restaurants will be closed on Thanksgiving, there are still some restaurants that will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

Here is a list of major chain restaurants open for Thanksgiving (hours and participation vary):

  • Bob Evans
  • Boston Market
  • Buca di Beppo
  • Cracker Barrel
  • Denny's
  • Fleming's Prime Steakhouse
  • Golden Corral
  • Ruth's Chris Steak House
  • Waffle House
