The Jefferson Awards for Public Service looks for local unsung heroes who make the world a better place through volunteering and community service. Known as the “Nobel Prize for Public Service,” the awards recognize ordinary people who do extraordinary things. RTV6 presents the Jefferson Awards to local volunteers and paid professionals, who go well beyond their expected duties and positively impact our communities.
INDIANAPOLIS -- The future of many Indiana children is in his hands and he doesn't take that responsibility lightly.
Brian Robinson speaks out for the most vulnerable Hoosier children.
"We are appointed by the court in Marion County to represent the best interest of children that are the subject of abuse and neglect cases," said Robinson.
But his work extends beyond his hours on the clock, Robinson also mentors youth, and during their darkest days, shows them that someone cares.
"One thing I say in this profession is that first impressions do not matter when you're working with youth, it just can't," said Robinson. "They can come off as unapproachable, sometimes just mean, but you just have to fight through that because they are kids and they've been through so much."
Watch the video above to hear Brian Robinson talk more about what he does and why it's so important.
