People aren't making jokes of survivalist stores anymore

While most retail stores are shutting down until the crisis subsides, one type of store is doing brisk business — survival shops.

Survival stores have products that can last years and years.

For years, people have ridiculed survivalists, or "preppers," who stock up on food, water, and basic military supplies in case the worst happens. But with coronavirus spreading, people are now turning to them for advice.

Water filters, storage food, magazines and first aid equipment — some of the bare essentials that can be found at a survivalist store.

People in one store we went to are not planning to hole up in the mountains waiting for the end of the world. Instead, they want to have some supplies on hand for the peace of mind it provides.

"It eliminates the fear; you don't have any fear if you are prepared," one shopper said.
