and last updated

Amazon is offering Amazon and Android users a bundle of 40 apps worth $220 for absolutely nothing. Zilch. Nada. But the deal is only good through Christmas Day.

Among the apps being given away,  Angry Birds Space (originally $2.99), Jump Desktop (originally $9.99), to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, 8th Ed. (originally $30.99) to The Muscular System Manual: The Skeletal Muscles of the Human Body (originally $60.99).

There are other free apps, from games to productivity to image editors.

The idea is some people will be giving Amazon or Android devices for Christmas and they can load the free apps  on their new devices. Amazon has also issued discounts on Kindle ebooks, its own devices, and Instant videos, for last-minute shopping.

RTV6 App Also Free

Downloading the free RTV6 app for your Apple or Android device means you’ll be the first to know when news or severe weather happens in the area.

The upgraded RTV6 app uses background refresh, meaning the latest news will be pre-loaded every time you open the app. The clean new interface features edge-to-edge images, new animations and single-touch video play on articles.

If you’re in a hurry to see the latest news and weather information, the app features links to specific stories directly inside push notifications. This way, our editors can now link a push notification directly to a story for quick access from the notification bar — or even your phone’s lock screen.

The app also features real-time traffic updates with a map and a list of current conditions.

You can browse through the day's top stories on the app's landing page, or use the menu to select sections and create a more personalized experience.

Did you miss the newscast? No worries. We're always streaming our 24-hour news and sports channel HTSN in the app, except when we've got live sporting events or breaking news to watch.

You can also browse through photo galleries in the "Photos" section of the app.

Use the ShopSmart section to browse the latest local deals and discounts. You can also use ShopSmart to build a shopping list and compare sales across different stores.

The uReport feature makes it easy for you to share photos, videos and story ideas directly with the RTV6 newsroom.

Whether you just got a new device recently or simply haven’t yet downloaded the app onto your existing one, check it out to stay connected — it’s free.
