INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Public Schools on Friday will host a virtual conversation about race in the wake of George Floyd's death and the subsequent protests around the world.
The district is inviting community members to join IPS leaders for "Lets Talk: An Honest Conversation About Race" on Friday beginning at noon. The session will be hosted on Zoom and will include a Q & A session.
"I hope our community will respond to the please for justice with an affirmation that we are ready to engage so we can begin healing from our racist past, understand the impact it has had and continues to have on Black people and imagine a new future," Aleesia Johnson, IPS superintendent, said. "Determining the best path forward will not be easy, but we will fail our children if we leave them a legacy of racism that we can begin undoing now."
In addition to Johnson, panelists will include Dr. Patricia Payne, director of the IPS Racial Equity Initiative, Michael O' Connor, IPS Board president and Evan Hawkins, IPS Board vice president. The discussion will be moderated by Kristian Stricklen, IPS chief communications and engagement officer.
