INDIANAPOLIS – Prosecutors in three counties have filed new criminal charges against a home improvement contractor following a Call 6 Investigates report about his business practices.
In Marion County, prosecutors filed new charges on September 8 against Jerry Hatten for home improvement fraud and theft.
The charges stem from Hatten allegedly taking more than $6,000 from an east side elderly couple, Carlene and Keith Hall, and not doing the work promised.

In court documents filed this month, IMPD Detective Glen Schmidt noted the Call 6 report on the Halls which aired on August 1.
At the time the Call 6 story aired, Hatten had not yet been arrested by law enforcement despite numerous outstanding warrants.
Hatten was arrested at a motel on August 12 after nine months of being wanted by law enforcement.
He’s now facing 25 criminal charges stemming from nine separate cases in Marion, Johnson, Hamilton and Jackson counties for theft, check deception and home improvement fraud.
On September 1, Hamilton County prosecutors filed three misdemeanor check deception charges against Hatten.
Hatten rented a Bobcat and jack hammers from Runyon Equipment Rental in May, and wrote $1,023.06 in checks that were later declined due to insufficient funds, court records show.
In Johnson County, prosecutors filed a felony check deception charge against Hatten on August 29.
In the Johnson County case, the check amount was between $750 and $50,000.
He has numerous court appearances scheduled for October and is currently housed in the Marion County jail.
