INDIANAPOLIS – About 14,000 Hoosiers filed first-time unemployment claims in the week ending on Nov. 7, about seven times the pre-pandemic weekly total.
The number of claims for the week was 14,700, a slight increase from the previous week's adjusted total of 13,413. The number of claims in Indiana remained above 20,000 for 17 straight weeks from early March to mid-July. After that, it stayed in the 10,000 range until about a month ago, when it jumped to nearly 18,000.
In the 32 weeks since the COVID-19 pandemic began, more than a million Hoosiers have filed for unemployment.
The number of continued claims dropped under 100,000 to 96,385, the first time since the pandemic started that it's dropped.
