INDIANAPOLIS – More than nine month into the pandemic, more than 15,000 Hoosiers filed first-time unemployment claims in the week ending Jan. 2.

The number is a slight increase from the previous two weeks, when about 12,000 Hoosiers filed first-time claims each week. The number of claims in Indiana remained above 20,000 for 17 straight weeks from early March to mid-July.

In the 40 weeks since the COVID-19 pandemic began, more than 1.2 million Hoosiers have filed for unemployment.
