MUNCIE — The residence halls at Ball State University will officially close at 5 p.m. on March 29.
University President Geoffrey S. Mearns made the announcement in a letter to the university campus on Monday. A university spokesperson said they didn't know how many students and staff remain on campus, however, many students have already left campus.
In the letter to the university community, Mearns said very limited exceptions would be made to the directive, including where students may not have safe and suitable alternative living arrangements or where prohibitive travel restrictions or exceptional ongoing academic commitments. Students will receive a credit to their bursar accounts in the appropriate pro-rata amount to be applied to future expenses. In exceptional cases, staff are authorized to consider giving a refund instead to relieve unusual financial hardship.
Campus services, including dining, the library and recreational facilities remain open for the time being with dining facilities providing to-go options.
