INDIANAPOLIS — New numbers released Friday by the Indiana State Department of Health show African-American Hoosiers are disproportionally affected by COVID-19.
African-American Hoosiers make up about 9.8% of the state, but about 18.5% of COVID-19 cases.
“That’s what every other state has seen,” Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box said.
Coronavirus disproportionately affects African-American Hoosiers
Box said it’s because African-American residents are more likely to have conditions like diabetes or heart disease.
