INDIANAPOLIS — The COVID-19 death toll among staff and inmates at Indiana state prison facilities has reached 20.

Latest figures from the Department of Correction show two employees have died from the virus, and there are 18 confirmed or suspected COVID-19 deaths among offenders.

The death count has increased by one since Monday. Seven of the inmate deaths are at the Plainfield Correctional Facility in Hendricks County, six at Westville Correctional Facility in northern Indiana and four at Pendleton Correctional Facility in Madison County.

There have been 658 confirmed positive COVID-19 tests among the 1,348 inmates screened. That's an increase of 31 over the span of one week.

299 prison employees have tested positive, an increase of 12 since Monday.
