INDIANAPOLIS — People who are unemployed in Indiana will receive some assistance after the Federal Emergency Management Agency approved the state for a grant under the Lost Wages Assistance program.
The grant funding will allow Indiana to provide $300 per week on top of regular unemployment benefits to people who are out of work due to COVID-19, according to a news release from FEMA.
FEMA will work with Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb to implement a system to make the funding available to residents, the release said.
Nineteen states have been approved for lost wages assistance since Aug. 15 after President Trump made up to $44 billion available from FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund for people who are unemployed because of the pandemic.
