SPEEDWAY — A drive-through style graduation at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Although exact details are still being worked out, it looks like members of the Speedway High School Class of 2020 will take part in a graduation ceremony at the world's most famous auto racing track.
As envisioned by school administrators, the May 30 ceremony will feature seniors walking across the Yard of Bricks at the start-finish line to receive their diplomas.
The school is working with IMS officials on the details, including how to do the ceremony in the face of COVID-19 restrictions. There are health and safety considerations to be addressed.
School Superintendent Dr. Kyle Trebley sent out word this week about the special plans. Like schools elsewhere, Speedway High School closed its door in mid-March due to the pandemic.
"Further information will be provided to students and families as it becomes available. We appreciate working with IMS and thank them for their willingness to help us make graduation memorable for our seniors and their families," said Trebley.
