TIPTON — The school day is changing very quickly for students at Tipton Middle School in Tipton.
They're going from classroom to at home learning, effective Friday.
Thursday, Principal Melissa Kikta sent a message to parents saying, "a staff member of our Tipton Community School Corporation has tested positive for COVID-19. This person was in direct contact with students for a prolonged period of time." Superintendent Ryan Glaze said the staff member does work at the middle school.
The school building has been closed and students are switching to virtual learning. October 13 is the current back-to-school date. Students will receive their instructions and daily activities through Google Classroom at 9 a.m. each day.
In her message, Kikta said tudents will be contacted about the availability of ZOOM/Google Hangout sessions for instruction or help. Kikta stressed the importance of students completing the attendance form for every class every day, and to follow the lesson plan on a daily basic while they are away from the school building.
Athletic and extracurricular activities are canceled for now.
Kikta had a request for parents. "Be sure to communicate with your student's teachers if you have any questions about the classes or assignments."
