INDIANAPOLIS — Fans of Roncalli and Southport high school football will have to wait at least another week to see their teams in action.
Friday night's opening game between the two south side Marion County schools was canceled just hours before kickoff over COVID-19 concerns.
According to a statement from Perry Township schools, a Southport football player has a confirmed case of COVID-19. The player last attended school on Monday.
The football team and other players who had close contact with the student have already been contacted.
The Marion County Health Department will decide when the Southport team is allowed to resume practices and games.
There was no immediate word on whether the game would be made up later in the season.
