FISHERS — The Hamilton Southeastern Schools Board of Trustees voted Wednesday to keep all students in the district on 100% virtual learning through January 15, 2021.
“Based on the fact that our community COVID-related numbers from the Fishers Health Department are not decreasing, and we continue to experience a substantial number of teacher and students absences, I believe it is better to remain status quo than go back-and-forth between learning models,” said Superintendent Dr. Allen Bourff.
The board plans to reassess the situation before January 13, 2021, to determine if students are able to return to the classrooms that week.
The board also approved support staff to continue receiving pay while students remain virtual.
"It is the goal of the board to get students, especially our youngest learners, back to in-person learning as soon as possible. We are in the process of on-boarding more than 100 substitutes in the coming weeks. We are greatly appreciative of those who have offered to help in our classrooms," the school said in a statement released Wednesday. "We greatly appreciate your understanding and flexibility during this time. We ask that you continue to report COVID-19 positive cases and close contacts while students are 100% virtual."
