INDIANAPOLIS — Two local doctors with kids say they're hoping to ease the tension so many parents are feeling now as the school year starts.
Dr. Sarah Bosslet, a pediatrician, and her husband, Dr. Gabriel Bosslet, a pulmonologist, say it's better to test people for COVID-19, find the cases, and quarantine them.
“That's a reassuring thing," Sarah said. "It should not strike fear in everyone's heart."
They have four kids and their oldest three will stay home for school this year while their youngest will attend kindergarten in person.
“Excited for them to get back to school and get some socialization, but we know that it's going to be a strange year," Sarah said.
Even with their advanced medical degrees, they say the decisions they’re making are weighing heavily on them. They know other parents are feeling the same way.
“Give others the grace to make their own decisions when it may differ from ours is important because everyone is just really struggling with this," Gabriel said.
Gabriel says the best thing everyone can do is limit exposure with others outside of their home and school.
In addition to telling your kids how important masks and social distancing are, the couple says your attitude about this situation will determine how your kids feel.
"We can control what we can control and we accept that some of this we can't know. We're going to have a positive attitude about it and do the best that we can," Sarah said.
