WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University is taking added COVID-19 precautions as it works to reopen the West Lafayette campus for the fall semester.
Starting May 26, anyone entering a campus building must wear a face covering. It must be worn in all hallways, public spaces, common areas and in office spaces when social distancing of six feet is not possible. Masks are also mandatory outside when social distancing isn't possible,
There will be new building signs to promote social distancing, along with marked pathways.
The school is promoting "robust personal hygiene", including frequent handwashing.
Purdue President Mitch Daniels also announced Thursday the appointment of the "Protect Purdue" implementation team. The group will develop policies, procedures, guidelines, strategies, and tactics to make Purdue as safe as possible during the pandemic. The team is divided into seven working groups focused on specific activities and support needs.
Additionally, three medical doctors with expertise in infectious disease and pathology have been chosen to advise and assist Purdue as it continues to prepare for a return to on-campus instruction.

“We are grateful to three outstanding physicians for their willingness to provide scientific and medically-based guidance on the vital decisions that need to be made and systems that need to be in place in order for us to successfully operate a safe Purdue University and fulfill our missions,” Daniels said. “More changes will be forthcoming and we will rely on and trust these experts as we address these challenging times.”
