12 children diagnosed with syndrome linked to COVID-19 treated at Riley Hospital for Children

INDIANAPOLIS — Riley Hospital for Children has treated 12 patients diagnosed with a syndrome linked with to COVID-19.

All 12 patients with Multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) have recovered and been discharged from the hospital, Emily Garrett, a spokesperson for the hospital, said in an email Friday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, MIS-C is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs. It isn't known what causes the disease but it has been linked to the virus that causes COVID-19.

The syndrome in children is a condition and can cause some body parts, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs, to become inflamed, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The exact number of patients in Indiana who have been diagnosed with MIS-C is not clear, however, the CDC reports 11-20 cases in Indiana since Thursday.
