INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana, along with much of the country, is already dealing with record-breaking COVID-19 numbers, including new cases and new deaths.
A big unknown is the true impact of the Thanksgiving Holiday on Hoosiers. On top of that, we are approaching Christmas, Hanukkah and New Years—all very common times for get-togethers.
Kristen Kelley, the Nursing Director of Infection Prevention at IU Health, says what is concerning is that there has been a rise in cases in the days before Thanksgiving, through Thanksgiving and then after.
"And know we are seeing record numbers of cases and deaths. This is going to be a tough time for us - this month," said Kelley. "It is a good time for us to hunker down. I have not really stated as much as I have lately, but the numbers are really, really concerning. We want to lay low during this month because there are so many people infected with COVID, that your chances of going out and getting it are very high right now."
Kelley says we should all be wearing face masks when out in public, practice social distancing and wash your hands often.
She recommends going to stores during off hours to avoid crowds.
