INDIANAPOLIS -- An executive order signed by Governor Eric Holcomb Tuesday could provide needed help to EMS professionals in the state stretched thin by the COVID-19 crisis.

The order allows retired and inactive emergency medical professionals to return to work and provide supplemental health care services without reinstatement or approval by the Indiana EMS Commission. Work must be done under the supervision of a licensed EMS or health care professional.

Under the executive order, retired and inactive EMS professionals are also allowed to provide primary care for patients as part of emergency response if they get a temporary certification or license from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
