McCORDSVILLE — Concerns over COVID-19 are now stretching into the holiday season.
In McCordsville, the Hancock County town's annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will not take place on December 2 this year.
It's the first cancellation since McCordsville started the event in 2011. Town Manager Tonya Galbraith said social distancing would be difficult with so many children, parents and grandparents attending the tree lighting. School choral groups and bands also perform.
There will still be a tree and it will still be lit, but there will be no ceremony, according to Galbraith.
The town, however, will have a virtual tree lighting where residents can post photos of their own decorations on the McCordsville Facebook page. More details will be announced soon.
The town is also looking at a way to preserve its Trunk-or-Treat Halloween event.
