SHELBYVILLE — Another Covid-19 related setback for children and adults. This one in Shelbyville, where the city has decided not to open the Meridian Park Family Aquatic Center this year.

The decision was not made lightly, according to a statement from the city. The mayor and park board felt a decision needed to be made now because of the time it takes to get the pool ready each year. In the end, there were too many obstacles to overcome in order to keep the public safe.

The statement listed reasons for keeping the pool closed:

It was determined that a greatly shortened season, social distancing, reduced capacity of the pool, concession and deck areas, guard room and bath houses were too many obstacles to overcome and keep patrons safe.
