PLAINFIELD — There is a helping hand for folks in Plainfield and Center Township in Lebanon who are homebound due to the coronavirus threat.
Public departments in both areas are working to help deliver groceries and supplies to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
PLAINFIELD
The town has launched its Plainfield Resident Assistance Program to help people who, because of the pandemic, have been told to stay home and avoid other people for their own safety. The program helps by connecting residents with the resources to meet their basic needs.
“We understand that people still have needs that must be met and there are many people who want to help,” said Town of Plainfield Town Manager, Andrew Klinger. “We want everyone to stay safe, so this program is designed to help deliver supplies or resources to high-risk individuals without exposing them to unnecessary human contact that could put them at risk.”
The Assistance Program can assist with delivery of pre-paid groceries and medications that are ready for pick-up. Town employees, who have gone through a health screening, will be activated to pick up requested essentials and drop goods off at doorsteps.
“We have been proactive in coordinating and receiving guidance from local pharmacies and grocery stores to ensure efficient and expedited delivery of essential items.” said Klinger.
For people who are not able to process an online order or have other limitations, the town may be able to help connect them with churches or other community resources.
The Town of Plainfield has set up a phone number, 317-839-2561, and an email (residentassistance@townofplainfield.com) to handle the requests.
All deliveries will be made in marked Town of Plainfield vehicles. Assistance will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning March 23.
Center Township
The Center Township Fire Department in Lebanon is delivering groceries and essential supplies to those who are quarantined, elderly people, or who people who don't want to risk being in public, according to a press release from the fire department.
Citizens will only have to pay for the grocery bill at the time of the order, according to the release. The receipt and change will be given to the citizen in an envelope during the delivery. Fire department personnel will stay outside to ensure there is no physical contact made with at-risk-citizens.
If you need help bringing the groceries inside, arrangements will be made, according to the release.
The program will continue until there is not a need for it, according to the release. Fire departments will be able to respond to calls, if needed, while delivering groceries.
