INDIANAPOLIS — About 96,000 Hoosiers will receive more unemployment assistance on Friday.

The new COVID dollars are funding three new separate federal programs. Depending on your situation, the program is paying out $300.

Some Hoosiers are getting that amount plus their state benefit.

Friday, the next wave of people will begin receiving their $300 retroactive to December 26.

Fred Payne, the Department of Workforce commissioner, said, as a reminder, each of the three programs comes with its own regulation.

"These are federal programs we are implementing on behalf of the federal government. We have to follow their guidance and guidelines," Payne said.

Since March, the state has paid out more than $6.5 billion in payments involving more than 785,000 people.

However, that state says there is a backlog. They point out that some claims are not paid out while they're reviewed, as required by state law, for possible fraud or could be challenged by the employer.
