INDIANAPOLIS — In many states, face masks or cloth coverings will be required in the public to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Whether this measure has been mandated by the state governor or not, many folks may want to have some sort of face-protection before heading out of the house.
Crimson Tate, a modern fabric store in Indianapolis, not only has the materials you need to make your own mask but the instructions as well.
Here's what you need to get started and how to make your own fabric mask covering, according to the owner of Crimson Tate and fabric designer Heather Givans.
Here's what you need to get started:
- Scissors
- Thread: Crimson Tate suggests 40 wt cotton thread. It is a multipurpose thread, so you can use it for all kinds of sewing projects later once you're done sewing masks, Givans said.
- Fabric: Choose two 1/2 yard cuts of fabric. This will yield about 12 masks (leaves room for error, and you can make some for your family and friends).
- Elastic: Crimson Tate sells ten yard cuts of elastic, which can make 25 masks.
- Sewing Machine
Givans says the following instructions are the most straight forward, and the pattern is more than likely the easiest to sew.
