GREENSBURG — Officials in Decatur County have suspended a local travel restriction ordinance and will now follow the official state guidelines as Indiana begins to reopen from COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 2, county commissioners issued an emergency ordinance with a travel warning and closed all restaurants. At the time, the county had the state’s highest number of COVID-19 infections per capita.

But since April 11, the situation has improved, officials said. Decatur County Commissioners Rick Nobbe, Jerome Buening, Mark Koors and Greensburg Mayor Joshua Marsh issued a joint statement Monday.

"Since April 11, Decatur County has seen a steady decline in new COVID-19 cases,” the statement reads. “With the input of the Decatur County Health Department and Decatur County Memorial Hospital, we feel cautiously optimistic in suspending Ordinance 2020-04, which includes ending curfew and moving to a yellow travel warning.
