INDIANAPOLIS — The top doctor leading the national response to COVID-19 is discussing whether Hoosier kids should play school sports this fall.

With more than one million school-age kids in grades K through 12th, there are many concerns about them returning to the classroom and playing sports.

Dr. Deborah Birx says each sport is going to pose a different risk and going to need different understandings among the coaching staff and players.

"I think its good that some of our national sports teams, like baseball, have gone back," Dri. Birx said. "They can socially distance and really see what (are) those risk factors. What are the risks to individual players and coaches?"

Dr. Birx goes on to say that states find themselves in the most trouble with positive COVID-19 cases because of bars.

Dr. Birx says social distancing will be the most difficult task for schools.
