INDIANAPOLIS — There is a big concern with the wait times for COVID-19 testing.
Only on RTV6, Dr. Deborah Birx, one of the top doctors on the White House Coronavirus Task Force, talked about the impact of the pandemic.
With schools planning to reopen, there's a question of whether schools will have access to reliable and quick testing results.
Dr. Birx says to work with public health officials to remain socially distant if you do go and get a test out of fear that you may have COVID-19 or have come into contact with someone who tested positive.
"So, while we have these delays ... if you're concerned enough to go and get a test, please protect others around you for however long it takes for you to get those results back," Dr. Birx said. "And while we work to really decrease those turnaround times, work with us to protect others while you're in that unknown period."
Dr. Birx went on to say the task force is looking at deploying tests that can provide results within 24 to 48 hours.
