FISHERS — An employee at IKEA in Fishers has tested positive for COVID-19, the company confirmed.
A statement from IKEA said the company learned on Monday the employee had been diagnosed with the coronavirus. Based on the employee's role, they would not have come into direct contact with customers, according to IKEA.
"Consistent with our mitigation protocol and in cooperation with local health officials, we immediately initiated the contact tracing process, which involves identifying and notifying any co-workers who may have been in close and prolonged contact (less than 6 feet away from the infected co-worker for 15 minutes or more) with the individual, as well as taking appropriate steps to institute compulsory quarantine for any exposed co-worker," the statement said.
IKEA began reopening stores on June 3 after they closed the early days of the pandemic in mid-March.
As of Tuesday, 97 people have died from COVID-19 in Hamilton County, while 1,393 people have tested positive.

On June 22, we were made aware that a co-worker at the IKEA Fishers location has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The health and safety of our co-workers and customers continues to be our top priority. IKEA follows the Center for Disease Control recommendations when there is a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 in our retail or distribution units. In addition, the housekeeping company contracted by IKEA performs deep cleaning in high traffic co-worker contact areas in the store as well as normal cleaning and disinfection routines in all other areas of the store.
