NOBLESVILLE — The Hamilton County clerk encouraged people, especially those who are sick or older than 65, to file for an absentee ballot.
Kathy Williams said she would like to limit people's exposure to COVID-19 by asking them to vote without leaving their house.
“Older adults and people with serious chronic health conditions are at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19,” Williams said.
Williams said registered voters can vote absentee by mail for multiple reasons including if they are confined to their residence, hospital or nursing home due to illness, if they are caring for someone who is confined or if they are age 65 or older.
Hamilton County residents who would like to vote absentee should submit an application by midnight April 23. Applications can be downloaded online or requested by phone by calling 317-776-8476.
Ballots can be returned by fax, mail or email, and must be returned by the election office by noon on Election Day. Williams asked that people not return absentee ballots in person.
“Just like any business, Hamilton County is working to help reduce transmission among staff and maintain business operations," she said. "We encourage citizens to do as much of their county business online, over the phone or by mail as possible.”
