INDIANAPOLIS — Gov. Eric Holcomb signed an executive order Tuesday that extends the state’s public health emergency for the ninth time.
The order extends the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration through Dec. 31, but it’s expected to be renewed again past that date.
Under Indiana law, the state of emergency will continue until the governor determines the threat has passed and terminates the disaster emergency. But it’s only legally supposed to go for 30 days, unless renewed by the governor.
The latest executive order states the COVID-19 virus has spread to all 92 Indiana counties. There have been more than 344,000 cases and nearly 5,600 deaths.
“… the virus remains a threat to the health, safety and welfare of all residents of Indiana such that emergency conditions continue to exist, and efforts are needed to continue to address, control and reduce the threat posed by COVID-19,” the order states.
