INDIANAPOLIS – School districts across central Indiana have begun releasing their plans for the 2020-2021 school year. Some are going online, others are planning in-person classes.
Here’s a look at each district and their plans for the next few months.
Indianapolis Public Schools
Return on: Aug. 17
IPS is requiring masks for teachers and students. Schools’ drinking fountains will be shut down and students will get a water bottle to refill. IPS will offer students both in-person and remote learning options.
Washington Township Schools
Return on: July 30
Washington Township will be beginning the school year 100% online, due to a recent increase in cases.
Johnson County schools
Return on: Scheduled dates
Schools in Johnson County are planning to limit visitors in the building, and strongly encouraging students and staff members to wear masks. Students and staff will need to be fever-free for 72 hours before returning to school.
Hendricks County principles
Return on: Scheduled dates
Staff and students will have to have a mask with them at all times. Masks will be required in some instances.
Brownsburg Community Schools
Return on: July 30
Facemasks will be required, except in very specific situations, such as speech instruction.
Anderson Community Schools
Return on: Aug. 5 (Virtually)
Anderson Community Schools will go 100% virtual for the start of the 2020-21 school year. The goal for the district will be to return to return to in-school classes on or around Sept. 9.
Lawrence Township Schools
Return on: Aug. 13
Lawrence Township Schools will be delayed to begin the 2020-21 school year. Students currently have the option of returning to school for on-site instruction or enrolling in virtual programming.
Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation
Return on: Aug. 6
Schools in Columbus will begin on time, with an option for families to begin with virtual learning.
Wayne Township Schools
Return on: Aug. 12
The district delayed reopening by two weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will also require all staff and students in grades 4-12 to wear masks at school. The district is also giving students the option for virtual learning at home.
Hamilton Southeastern Schools
Return on: Aug. 6 (Virtually)
HSE students will begin the year with virtual learning, with plans to return to the buildings after Labor Day.
