Indiana unemployment claims drop to lowest level since beginning of pandemic

INDIANAPOLIS — The number of Hoosiers filing first-time unemployment claims dropped to the lowest level since the beginning of the pandemic nearly five months ago.

The number of claims for the week ending Aug. 1 was 12,533, the lowest number since two weeks prior total of 17,911.

The prior week's adjusted total was 20,129. The number of claims in Indiana remained above 20,000 for 17 straight weeks since early March, before dropping in the week ending July 18.

In the 20 weeks since the COVID-19 pandemic began, about 940,000 Hoosiers have filed for unemployment.
