INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Animal Care Services moved to appointment-only, curbside adoptions Wednesday following executive orders from the state and city related to preventing the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to a release from IACS, people interested in adopting an animal should visit the shelter's website and submit an online application. Staff will then select several animals they think will be a best fit for families and their lifestyle.
There is a space on the application for applicants to write the name of an animal they are interested in from Petfinder or IACS' Facebook page.
An IACS staff member will call to set up an appointment to come to the shelter. The release said meet-and-greets will be required for dogs, which will be held in the shelter's outdoor dog runs. Meet-and-greets with cats will be held inside the shelter with extra precautions in place.
“This really is the perfect opportunity to help integrate a pet into the family,” Laura Keith, IACS kennel manager, said. “By adopting now, most people will have more time to spend bonding with the pet, thus setting the animal up for success in the home.”
