INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis City-County Council member William "Duke" Oliver, D-District 9, has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Oliver, 77, and his wife, Dorothy, 70, tested positive for the coronavirus in early December, according to a news release from the city. Dorothy Oliver was admitted to the hospital, but the couple is now recovering at home.

"I appreciate the prayers and well-wishes, but what I want most is for everyone to be careful," William Oliver said. "Stay masked, stay home, stay safe."

William Oliver, who has served on the council since 2004, is feeling "much better," but his wife had a more severe case and is recovering at a slower pace, the news release said.
