INDIANAPOLIS – The city of Indianapolis’ rental assistance program has distributed more than $6.6 million to needy residents who have been affected by COVID-19.

As of Tuesday morning, the program has given rental assistance to 3,319 families, with an average of $1,989 per household, Indianapolis Deputy Mayor Jeff Bennett said Wednesday.

There has been a total of about $25 million allocated for the program.

The program is eligible for Marion County renters whose income has been reduced by COVID-19. Any renters who already have rental assistance from another source are ineligible.

Because of so many applications, the city is admitting 1,000 applicants at a time from its waitlist.
