INDIANAPOLIS — Indy PopCon, an annual comic and pop culture convention, has postponed its in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The convention was initially scheduled for July 10-12 but it has been postponed until “it can safely bring fans together to celebrate esports, gaming, art and all things geek.”

Convention officials hope to reschedule it for late 2020.

“We’re heartbroken to have to make this decision, but our fans’ health is of the utmost importance to us,” said Carl Doninger, co-owner of Indy PopCon. “This event is what we work toward all year, to have our family of geeks and gamers come together to celebrate their fandoms. But right now, the only way to do that safely is by being apart.”

PopCon was scheduled to start a film festival in 2020. That event will now be held online beginning July 9.
