ISDH: 30 new COVID-19 deaths, 2,548 positive cases reported across the state

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health reported 30 new COVID-19 related deaths and 2,548 additional positive cases on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Since the pandemic began in March, at least 8,966 COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Indiana and at least 592,709 total positive cases.

A total of 374 probable COVID-19 deaths have been reported since the pandemic began in March.

Deaths are reported by ISDH when it receives the data and have occurred over several days.

An additional 45,080 COVID-19 tests have been administered, according to ISDH. A total of 6,431,185 tests for COVID-19 have been given since the pandemic began in March.

According to ISDH, 25.9% of ICU beds and 10.1% of ventilators in the state are being used for COVID-19 patients, according to ISDH.

Hospitalizations continue to go down with just under 2,400 patients with COVID-19 admitted across the state of Indiana as of Monday.

Hoosiers age 70 and older, along with healthcare workers, long-term care residents, and first responders, are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

To date, nearly 303,000 Hoosiers have received their first dose of vaccine, and nearly 64,000 have been fully vaccinated.

Human coronaviruses most commonly spread from an infected person to others through: Respiratory droplets released into the air by coughing and sneezing; close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands; touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes before washing your hands; rarely, fecal contamination.

If soap & water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid close contact (within six feet) with people who are sick. Stay home when you are sick. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
