SPEEDWAY — As we begin the month of May, it will look a little different this year because the Indianapolis 500 was postponed.
The Speedway Arts Council is starting a new campaign, It's Still May in Speedway, to celebrate the month and get residents to show pride for their community.
Families are encouraged to start getting ready for a porch decorating contest and window decorating contest.
On Tuesday, residents can start registering for the contests here. It costs $5 to enter to each contest and the money will help St. Christopher Church Food Pantry continue helping local families.
"I thought wouldn't it be cool if everyone took part in decorating their yards rather it be for racing, to thank essential workers, doctors nurses, first responders," Speedway Arts Advisory Council President Alex Wisemiller said. "Just to be creative and show their town pride while also supporting the community in the process."
The message behind the campaign is even though the Indianapolis 500 isn't happening this month, it isn't the end of the world.
