INDIANAPOLIS — As people and organizations adapt to a new normal in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, there are a number of ways for folks to get involve and volunteer to help others during this time of need.

The United Way of Central Indiana is working with other community-based organizations to share those organizations' needs while connecting volunteers with safe opportunities in their communities.

Those looking to volunteer are asked to keep a few things in mind:

  • Honor the public health recommendations — If you are delivering supplies or food to a family or organization, follow the suggestion of social distancing and ring the doorbell and move away from the door or text them beforehand.
  • Feel connected through solo volunteering — Even if the opportunity is a solo volunteer the people impacted appreciate the outreach and it helps them feel connected.
  • Look for opportunities that are limited in size — If you are committed to volunteering with others, look for opportunities with a group size of 10 or less.
  • Stay home when you are sick — There will be opportunities to help when needed, so if you are sick, stay home.

The United Way has listed opportunities to volunteer on their website. Here are links to some of the organizations looking for help:
